Multi-Wire vs Single-Wire Winding Comparison

When designing a brushless motor, it is necessary to evaluate the performance of many motor parameters and components, and the stator coil is one of the important components. Motor stator winding machines have specific requirements and contain numerous parameters such as stator outer diameter, inner diameter, stack thickness, number of wires, wire diameter, number of turns, number of slots, and slot distance.

For single-wire winding, the diameter should generally not exceed 1.3mm. For multi-wire winding, each line should not exceed 0.7mm in diameter. When a motor operates and current flows through the coil, a phenomenon called skin effect occurs, which weakens the overcurrent capability. Therefore, multi-wire winding generally offers better overcurrent capability compared to a single line.

In terms of efficiency, if conditions allow, employing multi-wire parallel winding is advantageous as it can improve the winding process efficiency. Both single-strand and multi-strand winding have their own advantages, and the choice primarily depends on specific product requirements.
